What Is a Personal Year?

The chapter

The year is the chapter. The month is the scene. The day is the weather. A Personal Year 1 is a start-over chapter. 4 is a build year. 9 is a finish-and-release year. Do not take a year number as an order to sign, leave, or marry.

It sits on top of Life Path. It does not replace it. An 8 Path in a 7 year still came to handle power — this chapter just wants the inner temple first. Fighting the year is how people get exhausted for no good reason.

How it is calculated

Personal Year = birth month + birth day + the calendar year in which this birthday fell, each reduced, masters kept, then the sum reduced. It is not Life Path plus the current year. Those two methods agree often and disagree on purpose when the birth year’s root is not 0.

On this site the year runs birthday to birthday — not January 1. The cycle that begins on the birthday in calendar year Y uses Y in the math and runs until the day before the next birthday.

The public sample is Jordan Avery Blake, born 15 January 1990. Life Path 8. Birth month 1, birth day 15 → 6. Personal Year is not Life Path plus the calendar year. It is birth month + birth day + the year in which this birthday fell.

Someone born in March is not in the same Personal Year in February that they will be in April. Sites that run January 1–December 31, or that add Life Path to the calendar year, will disagree. That is a school difference, not a broken calculator.

Then Personal Month = Personal Year in force that day + calendar month. Personal Day = Personal Month + calendar day.

Personal Year 1–9 and the masters

Masters stay unreduced when they appear. Most years land on 1–9. Gift, shadow, and practice for the digit live in the encyclopedia. What follows is how that number behaves as a chapter — not as a Life Path.

Month, day, and the public room

Stack them: climate (year), season (month), weather (day). A 1 month inside a 4 year is a first move that still has to build. A 9 month inside a 1 year is a clearing so the new chapter can start clean.

Universal Year / Month / Day are the same reductions without your birth date — the public room. When your Personal Day and the Universal Day agree, life feels easy. When they clash, you need more intention. That is the harmony score in the morning briefing, not a verdict on the year.

What a Personal Year is not

• Not the Life Path. The Path is the country. The year is this chapter of walking it.
• Not a January–December year unless your birthday is January 1. This house follows Hans Decoz: birthday to birthday.
• Not Life Path + calendar year. The engine uses month + day + the year the birthday fell in.
• Not an order to marry, quit, or move. A 1 year wants a first move. It does not write the contract.

The useful test is ordinary: after you have lived with the chapter for a month, do the weeks make more sense? If they do, keep the map.
