What Are Transits and Essence in Numerology?

A name used as a clock

If you have never heard of it: Transits take the letters of the birth name and walk them year by year. Each letter lasts as many birthday-to-birthday years as its Chaldean value, then the name loops. Essence is the three tracks added — the year’s combined weather from the name, not from the calendar. It is not a Personal Year, and it is not Life Path.

Physical Transit comes from the first name. Mental Transit from the middle (or last, if there is no middle). Spiritual Transit from the last name. A is one year, R is two, S is three. Age 0 is birth until the first birthday.

This house shows the original Essence sum and the fully reduced digit (16/7, 11/2) so both can be read. This is the only clock on the site that uses the Chaldean letter chart. The four standing seats stay Pythagorean on purpose.

Where Transits and Essence come from

The cipher is the Western chart popularized as Chaldean — values 1 through 8, no letter given 9. Cheiro (William John Warner, 1866–1936) and Sepharial (Walter Gorn Old, 1864–1929) sold that chart to a wide public: compounds, name-vibration, celebrity readings. It is not the Babylonian clay-tablet religion, and it is not the Pythagorean A–J–S = 1 cipher this house uses for Expression and Soul Urge.

Walking those letters as a year-by-year clock — Physical from the first name, Mental from the middle, Spiritual from the last, Essence as the three added — is how this house times a life with that chart. We fence it here on purpose. Mixing Chaldean letter values into a Pythagorean Life Path is how hobby sites invent a new self out of a cipher.

What Transits and Essence represent

In this house a transit names the chapter the name is in — not who you are. The standing seats are lifelong fabric. A transit letter is weather that lasts as long as its Chaldean value, then yields to the next letter.

• Physical Transit represents the body of the year — what you do, the visible plot, first-name weather.
• Mental Transit represents how you think the year — middle-name weather (or the last name, if there is no middle on the certificate).
• Spiritual Transit represents the inner weather of the year — last-name climate, not a new religion.
• Essence represents the three values added. The original sum and the reduced digit are both shown so you can read 16/7 as a 16 year that still lands on 7, or 11/2 as a master that still has a 2 twin.

A letter in the birth name is lifelong fabric on the standing chart. The same letter as a transit is a chapter. Do not rebuild your character around a year that happens to rhyme with a letter you were given at birth. Personal Year is still the calendar chapter from the birthday. Transits are the name walking.

What the map looks like

How it is calculated

Write the full birth name. Split it: first word is Physical, middle word(s) joined are Mental, last word is Spiritual. Two words and the last name fills Mental and Spiritual. One word fills all three. Compound surnames should be typed as one word if they belong together.

Give every letter its Chaldean value. Walk the name as a tape: J lasts 1 year, O lasts 7, then R, D, A, N, then J again. Age is completed years. The letter covering that age is the transit. Essence is Physical + Mental + Spiritual, masters 11 and 22 kept on the combined total, then the fully reduced digit shown beside it.

No letter is a 9. S is 3 here and 1 on the Pythagorean chart. H is 5 here and 8 there. That is why Essence is not a Personal Year wearing a different hat.

The public sample is Jordan Avery Blake, born 15 January 1990. Three words, three tracks. Physical is JORDAN (loops every 20 years). Mental is AVERY (15). Spiritual is BLAKE (13). Read on 19 August 2026, age 36 is Essence 16/7 — A year that wants the inner room.

How to read Transits and Essence

Interpretive guidance, not a prediction. The useful order:

1. Keep the four seats first. A transit 7 is weather. A Life Path 7 is the country. Life Path does not change because Essence turned over.
2. Name the three letters of this birthday year — Physical, Mental, Spiritual — in one sentence each. Then name Essence as the combined climate.
3. Notice which track is loud. A hard Physical letter with a quiet Spiritual letter is a year of doing more than praying. Do not invert them because a blog prefers 7s.
4. Do not mix ciphers. Chaldean values live here. Pythagorean values live on the standing chart. S is not the same number in both.
5. Do not change the name in a panic. A new spelling rewrites the clock. Hunt a name you can walk under on a Tuesday, not a “luckier” year.

If Essence is loud and the standing chart is quiet, the work is not becoming the year. It is walking the year as the person you already are.

• Not a Personal Year. Personal Year uses the birthday and the calendar year, Pythagorean. Transits use the Chaldean name as a clock.
• Not Life Path, Expression, or Soul Urge. Those seats stay Pythagorean. A transit 7 is weather. A Life Path 7 is the country.
• Not the Divine Triangle. The triangle walks nine-year squares with given-name letters on a Pythagorean / Javane figure. Transits are year-by-year Chaldean letters.
• Not the Holy Tetraktys. Tetraktys is only the birthday. Transits are only the name.
